Spedy vs. Jira

Jira is the enterprise standard. Spedy is the lean, GDPR-native alternative for EU teams that want more velocity and less configuration.

The verdict

Jira is powerful, mature, and the enterprise standard — and correspondingly configuration- and admin-heavy. Spedy is built for EU teams that pick speed over governance: AI coding agent built-in rather than purchased through the Atlassian Marketplace. If you work in a regulated enterprise with strict compliance needs, Jira is often the only option. If you’re a modern agency or a mid-sized team that wants to ship faster, Spedy is the better pick.

Where each tool wins

Both products are good. They just play in different leagues, depending on your region, stack philosophy, and workflow.

Spedy is strong when …

  • Productive in 5 minutes — no Atlassian admin training required
  • GDPR-native, EU hosting, DPA included by default
  • AI coding agent built in, ships PRs from tickets
  • Wiki + time tracking built in, no Confluence add-on needed
  • Free plan with all features (Jira Free has hard limits)

Jira is strong when …

  • Enterprise governance: workflows, permissions, audits at any depth
  • Marketplace with 3000+ apps — chances are one already exists
  • Industry standard in regulated industries (pharma, banks, gov)
  • Deep Atlassian Suite integration (Confluence, Bitbucket, Trello)
  • Huge community, certifications, consulting ecosystem

How to choose

Pick Spedy if:

  • You want less setup, more output — productive fast
  • Your team is 5-50 people, not a 500-person enterprise
  • Data sovereignty matters — hosting must be in the EU
  • AI coding workflow is part of your stack

Pick Jira if:

  • You work in a regulated enterprise (ISO, SOX, GxP)
  • You need granular permissions across 100+ projects
  • Atlassian Suite is already in place, lock-in makes sense
  • Consulting partners and certified admins are available

Frequently asked questions

Is Spedy fast enough for a 50-person team?
Spedy uses a modern architecture (Next.js, Postgres with indexes, realtime via Socket.io) and is designed from day one for large boards and multi-repo setups. We don't publish concrete load numbers because performance depends heavily on the actual setup — on request we'll happily run a demo with your real data volume.
Can we migrate from Jira?
Yes. Spedy has a native Jira API integration with two modes: one-time import or continuous live sync (via webhooks + polling). Status and user mappings are configurable. Custom fields and workflows may need to be remodeled — Spedy is intentionally less configurable, which sometimes simplifies migration. For teams of 10+ users we handle the setup at no cost.
How does Spedy replace Confluence?
Spedy ships with a built-in wiki featuring hierarchies, versioning, and granular permissions. For most teams, this fully replaces Confluence. If you rely on deep Confluence macros or specific Spaces structures, evaluate carefully — Spedy is intentionally leaner.
What about Jira Service Management?
Spedy is primarily engineering PM, not dedicated ITSM. If you use JSM for helpdesk and incident management, that’s a different product segment. For issue tracking and software delivery, Spedy covers all core functions.
How does the cost compare when switching?
For small teams Free → Free. Illustrative example for 20 users (Atlassian list prices, 2025): Spedy Pro = €180/month (20 × €9). Jira Standard (~$7.16) + Confluence (~$6.40) + Tempo time tracking (~$5) = ~€340/month — roughly half. The Atlassian bundle is an assumption: if you don't run Tempo or use a different plan combination, the delta shifts. Please check current prices with each vendor.
